September 25 of 2006; San Juan, Puerto Rico - The multinational UBO, Urban Box Office, presented today the worldwide launching of their internet web page www.freetempo.org, giving wings to the Tempo’s release.
David Sanchez Badillo, considered one of the most influential interpreters of the Latin hip hop genre and Reggaeton was sentenced to serve 24 years in prison after a jury found him guilty for supposedly participating in a “complot” to distribute drugs in Puerto Rico, which the artist has denied in all of the possible forums including the court. However his incarceration in Coleman’s prison in Florida has not diminished his hopes of freedom for which today’s launching of www.freetempo.org is more significant than ever.
The spontaneous gesture of people in favor of the release of Tempo gets stronger and that initial plea that his family initiated, his fellow artists and his people, is today a plea to the world with the release of the site www.freetempo.org that pretends to create a conscious to support the petition of a new trial for Tempo to millions of users that daily surf the cyber space.
“Our team has been working for many months in several efforts to help in the liberation of Tempo, that, in our part is the greatest motivation and for that we have worked with the best professionals in the media and communications industry in Puerto Rico and United States. Today we give one of the most important steps in the road to the release of Tempo with the launching of this site, that along with the effort of the attorneys in charge of the appeal in Boston, will help us create conscience of the experience lived by Tempo and the importance of a new opportunity for him, his family and the music,” stated Adam Kidron, President of Urban Box Office.
The site that without any doubt is one of the most impressive developed in the recent times has been designed by the team of Elastic People and spearheaded by his Creative Director, the Puerto Rican creative Carlos Perez, using the program Flash of Macromedia that allows an easy and dynamic navigation. The colors red and black that predominate in the cyber page respond to the colors of Ponce, city of the south of Puerto Rico from where Tempo is native.
In reference to the creative development Carlos Pérez commented that; "A project of this magnitude involved to first gather the information about Tempo, his career, his trial up to his incarceration. In Elastic People we studied and analyzed from his up bringing all the way to the sentence. At the end of the research, as a citizen, if you can relate to his case and understand that an injustice took place only then you accept the challenge under the first amendment; and that’s what we did".
The First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States was used as a foundation and allowing us to educate about the case and communicate those reasons for which David Sanchez Badillo and his support team feel he deserves a new trial or at least, a revision of his sentence. From this truth on the cyberspace we will find a page with a design that can be heard, seen and intends to catch the attention of the citizens, the media and even more important, the panel of judges from the Court of Appeals in Boston.
With the launching of www.freetempo.org the figure of the Puerto Rican David Sanchez Badillo, will have the opportunity to expose his story and his truth. Starting today, September 25, there is no turning back and the most important Hispanic Movement of all times in favor of the release of one of ours, Tempo has commenced.
